Nature inspired cake
Founded in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is the nation's oldest botanical garden. Not only does it offer 79 acres of horticultural display for St. Louis, it is also the center for botanical research and science education. It includes a Japanese strolling garden, Henry Shaw's original 1850 estate home, Children's Garden and the Climatron.
The Climatron is the world's first geodesic dome greenhouse, a lowland rain forest with1500 plants. This was the focus of our visit. There was a special exhibit, Nature Connects, Art with LEGO Bricks. Colin and Andrew's favorite hobby. It featured 25 nature inspired sculptures that were constructed with over 300,000 LEGO pieces.
P.S. Our visit took place on a Wednesday where it is free admission until noon. We only had to pay to see the exhibit.

The Lincoln-Douglas Cake Debate.
In 1858, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas were running for one of Illinois’ two U.S. Senate seats. In July of that year, Lincoln, a little known lawyer, challenged Douglas, who had held that seat for ten years, to a series of debates. There were seven total debates, one for each of the seven Congressional Districts of Illinois. The seventh and final debate was held in Alton, Illinois on October 15 in front of City Hall. This Alton debate drew national attention and about 6,000 people from Illinois and neighboring states came to see the debate. Douglas won the Senate seat that year however, Lincoln beat Douglas in the race for U.S. President in 1860.

The Payne – Gentry House is over 100 years old and is
restored to its original beauty.
At one
time, it was a doctor’s office for the unfortunately named Dr. Payne. I am sure that some blood was spilled in the
house during Dr. Payne’s practice and I would guess that is why the cake is a
blood red.
Some say that the house is
haunted. I did not notice this sinister feeling. To me it seemed like an old
restored house in the front on a neighborhood park.
Dark foreboding did not arise in me at The
Payne- Gentry house, but I did get the feeling that something spooky is going
on in Bridgeton.
Rich again.
